About Efteling
Efteling is an amusement park and recreation complex in Kaatsheuvel, a village in the Dutch province of North Brabant, known as ‘the world of wonders’. In terms of visitor numbers and surface area, Efteling is the largest amusement park in the Benelux. It is one of the most visited theme parks in Europe and in 2017 it was the most visited theme park in Europe after the French Disneyland Paris and the German Europa-Park.

The costume boutique “Spiegeltje,spiegeltje…” has been located in the former souvenir shop on Anton Pieckplein since 2019. Here young visitors can dress up as their favorite fairytale heroes.
In order to make the visit to the store even more attractive, in style with the philosophy of the park, De Efteling has devised the magic mirror. A mirror that can do magic! Standing in front of the mirror, children can use their hands as a magic wand to choose costumes which they – after a magical moment – will virtually actually wear. They can dance and jump and watch the costume magically move with them without actually wearing them.
The Efteling approached us to realize this unique mirror. For hardware, housing as well as (AR) content. We accepted this challenge without a single doubt.

design
Because the Efteling strives to have their magic reflected in all the details of the park, it is important that the mirror is a real fairytale mirror and not a piece of electronics. A perfect match for our INTERIO solution where the design is always the basis.
magical use
Standing in front of the magic mirror, you can intuitively swipe (touchless) through the wardrobe. All costumes pass by and after you have chosen the most beautiful one, the item is magically presented and projected onto your body by means of unique AR technology. The mirror uses technology that follows your body and therefore you can jump and dance but the fabric follows your body realistically. Nicely visualized with an hourglass, you have 20 seconds to experience the garment before returning to the main menu.
AR-technique
The clothing is designed using design templates. These are the loose pieces of the clothing before they are put together. Subsequently, the pieces are assembled and formed on a body by means of AR. In this way, the wavy fabrics form on, for example, a dress. This also makes the creases and subtle lines appear that really make the garment feel real.
